actress, writer, improviser
Michelle Nussey is an actress, writer and improviser who has worked professionally for
over 20 years, first in Australia and now in Los Angeles. Having lived in both Perth and Melbourne, it's probably best not to ask which football team she supports.
Michelle is co-founder and senior member of improv comedy outfit The Big HOO-HAA! Melbourne, currently performs with This Week This Week and is an alumnus of both Melbourne Playback Theatre Company and Impro Melbourne. She has been crowned National Theatresports Champion AND performs as a New Yorker at Universal Studios Hollywood, where she can use her improv skills for good.
For 6 years, Michelle worked at Melbourne Zoo as a presenter, which means she knows a LOT about the animals she was paid to talk about and not very much about any of the other ones, which luckily has never stopped her from talking about them anyway. In her spare time she likes to try to work out how to write bios about herself without starting every sentence with her own name.
Upon the boards she has been seen in Pretentious About Make Believe (The Second City Hollywood), Gorilla, lovely Gorilla (Melbourne Fringe), Unpack This (national tour), These Guys (Perth Fringe), Written It Down Live (Perth and Melbourne Fringes), The Mighty Little Puppet Show (Melbourne International Comedy Festival), Theatresports (Impro Melbourne), Dungeon Crawl (Bella Union), Funny Tails (Melbourne International Comedy Festival), 24 Hour HOO-HAA! (Melbourne International Comedy Festival), Work Work Work (Tuxedo Cat), ITS Sketchy At Best (Giant Dwarf) and much more.
On screen she has been seen in various TVCs; short films such as The Anti-Social Network, Blood Siblings and Captured (which has had over 2 million views on YouTube); webseries including Written It Down and Time and Space Face to Face; and TV series including Offspring and It’s a Date.
After studying performance, theatre and film at Hayman Theatre in Perth, Michelle graduated from Curtin University. Before this she trained in ballet, modern, jazz and tap at West End Academy for 17 years. As well as this, throughout her professional career she has gained experience as a director, writer, producer, stage manager, choreographer, publicist and acting teacher.
Michelle’s darkly funny satirical solo show Irrelevant premiered at Melbourne International Comedy Festival and was then invited to New York City to be performed as part of United Solo - the world’s largest solo performance festival.
